How to kill the nerve of a tooth

Surely you’ve ever heard the expression “kill the nerve” of a tooth or molar, but do you know how to kill the nerve of a tooth? It is an endodontic intervention performed on a tooth or a tooth in which the nerve is affected for some reason.

The nerve of a tooth is usually affected by a cavity that has come to touch that part and therefore this causes some pain. In this article, we tell you what it is to kill the nerve of a tooth and how to do it.

What is killing the nerve of a tooth?

As we said before, it is a root canal, that is, it is a treatment that is applied to a tooth when the nerve, that is, one of the internal parts, is inflamed.

In this procedure, the affected dental pulp (nerve) is removed to try to rebuild the tooth and not lose it.

How is the nerve of a tooth killed?

The nerve of a tooth is killed by the following procedure:

  • After the diagnostic tests are carried out by your dentist, a first session is carried out in which, after applying local anesthesia, caries that cause the infection is removed and the nerve is devitalized.
  • Secondly, it is necessary to disinfect and eliminate bacteria from the area where we will perform the intervention and carry out the extraction of the affected dental pulp. A filling material will be applied later that will fill the gap inside the root.
  • Once the endodontics is finished, the crown of the tooth must be reconstructed with a  conventional filling, although in some cases the dentist may recommend the placement of a crown/sleeve on that tooth/tooth.

When is it advisable to kill the nerve?

Normally whenever you notice pain in the tooth, even if it is quite intense, it is likely that you will need a root canal. Sometimes killing an infected nerve can save us from the extraction of our affected tooth or molar. Other situations in which it is advisable to do so:

  • If you break a tooth or a tooth for anything, usually proceed to endodontics or removal of the dental nerve.
  • When placing dental crowns, it is sometimes essential to kill the nerve in the affected area.

As long as the decay has penetrated the nerve, it is advisable to remove the affected dental nerve. Otherwise, the infection or inflammation will generate intense pain in the affected person.

Performing a root canal will always avoid major ills, but the best option to have a healthy mouth is to take care of it day by day and visit the dentist periodically so that you can evaluate its condition and act early if necessary.

When we talk about endodontics we refer to the treatment of dental canals, specifically the root and nerves, a sector called the dental pulp. It is one of the most widely practiced oral treatments. It consists of the extraction of the root of the affected tooth so that the pain decreases.

This procedure is applied to patients with caries problems and damage to the dental pulp. If you notice discomfort in your teeth when eating hot or cold food, or cavities that have already been treated previously hurt, or you simply notice any other similar inconvenience, go to CLINIC because you probably need a root canal in Madrid. Be careful because all these pathologies do not always manifest with pain, making their detection difficult.

HOW MUCH DOES A ROOT CHANNEL COST?

When we talk about how much a root canal costs, there are several factors to consider. Of course, the professional who performs the procedure is also important. A root canal is a treatment that requires knowledge and expert professionalism. It is the most important part of the tooth and the treatment must be precise.

The cost of a root canal ranges between € 100 and € 200. An important factor is where it is located and the type of tooth in question, since a tooth with a greater number of canals is not the same as a tooth.

TYPES OF ENDODONTICS

As for the different types of root canals  that can be performed according to the sector and treatment, we highlight 3 types:

  • Single root endodontics: it is practiced when the tooth only has one pulp canal, that is, it only has one root. Normally the price ranges around € 100-130
  • Bi-root endodontics: it is practiced when the tooth has two pulp canals and its price is around € 140.
  • Polyradicular endodontics: it is practiced when it affects a tooth with more than two roots and, therefore, several pulp canals. Its approximate price is € 190.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO DO A ROOT CANAL?

It depends on the type, the time it takes to perform a root channel varies, it can be done in one or more sessions, depending on the complexity of the case. Typically, a root canal treatment is carried out in 4 sessions of two hours each.

WHAT DOES A ROOT CHANNEL INCLUDE?

For a correct diagnosis in which to assess the most appropriate treatment and its cost. Endodontics includes:

  • Visit, endodontist recognition
  • Radiological tests
  • Diagnosis, treatment plan, and budget
  • Anesthesia and root canal procedure
  • Treatment reviews
